Bruno’s Bio

Brendan [Bruno] Clay’s interest of dance music began at the age of 14, playing mp3s, swindling with various software and even Music 2000 for the Playstation.  Brendan found himself not satisfied, as simply a consumer of the music he loved and explored for something new.  He began mixing on turntables and CD players in 2002, which tided in with the launch of his own weekly Internet-radio program, Friday Night Live in June that year.  The show featured the likes of Nik Fish, Mark Dynamix, Archie, Matrix and Jose Amnesia (Italy) as well as plenty of up and coming and well-established talent.

The popularity of Friday Night Live, took Brendan into his first ever club gig, as a fresh-faced 18-year-old at ‘Thursday Delights’, at The Icebox; playing alongside respected Sydney DJs, Yoshi, Matrix and Vixen.

During Winter 2004, Brendan held his first residency at Brothers Nightclub on the Central Coast, with a fellow DJ and Plastic resident, Bassboy.  The chance to play breaks at Plastic came in October 2004.  It was a huge step for Brendan as he was able to play his new found musical tastes at a club, that he had attended and respected so much in his earlier days in club-land as a hard-dance enthusiast.

Throughout 2005, Brendan played at Wanna Break? (the unofficial Inthemix Breaks Forum party) a handful of times to a respectable reception on each occasion.  Later on in the year, Brendan also was successful in his application to begin another Internet-radio show, ‘The M(idnight) Shift’ for NSB Radio (consistently voted the the world’s best breaks website at Breakspoll.)  Since its first show in November 2005, the popularity and listener-base is through the roof, due to the diverse range of music played on the show and the larrakin nature that Brendan (or Bruno as he’s known) and friends bring to the airwaves every week.  The show, now well into in its fourth year, is now broadcast weekly alongside DJ Ryza and JPL, on iBreaks Radio.

A significant break for Brendan, came just before the end of 2005, when he and Bassboy were asked to play at Harbour Party NYE at Luna Park, supporting Joey Negro (UK), Mark Dynamix, Goodwill, Craig Obey and many more of the big names that Sydney has to offer.

During 2008, Brendan established a DJ-duo, LET’S PLAY DJs, alongside producer, Andy Brownscombe.  Throughout 2008 and 2009, the pair have enjoyed regular success at Candy’s Apartment, Moulin Rogue and The Bourbon.  The pair regularly play to packed dance floors and live by the motto of, “playing all the songs you want to hear, you just don’t know it yet!”

Brendan’s musical taste is certainly diverse!   He craves the sounds deep, moody progressive house, filthy electro and fidget house, driving tech-house, techno and minimal and of course, fun-filled breaks. Brendan prides himself on musical diversity, cleanliness in the mix and bringing innovative elements into his mixing.
